Entre les ranks: Luminothérapie to Quartier des Spectacles

The public installation Entre les ranks is the winner of the 4th edition of the annual Luminothérapie competition, an initiative of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership that offers Montrealers and its visitors a winter animation. On a plot of land, “Local of the Festivals,” similar – by its shape and positioning – to the ranks established along the Saint-Laurent River by the seigneurial regime, Entre les ranks rests on a proposal: revisiting a slope of Quebec’s agricultural history to engage it in dialogue with the current urban context.

In a nod to the fields of Quebec wheat that undulated in the wind and seasons, the contemporary installation presents thousands of flexible stems surmounted by white reflectors who use the surrounding stimuli to create a new animation. Immersed in the heart of a sensory experience, visitors are invited to a winter walk through a series of winding paths, where the stems turn into a large canvas, rocked by the wind, caressed by light and carried by music.
